Just felt right.

Parents of a Year 14 Leaver July 2017

Our son would never be where he is today if it wasn’t for your staff at the school. We would therefore wish that you pass on our personal thanks to all staff that have been part of our son’s development.
As parents its times like today that give you that much needed boost in life.

You should be so proud of your school and staff and without that support none of those special kids would have achieved what we saw and heard today.

Family feedback 24th May 2017

When our Grandson joined Barbara Priestman Academy he was unable to communicate very well and was struggling with an eating disorder.

We are thrilled with how much he has come on, especially with his Physics and Maths.

He has overcome a lot of issues since starting Barbara Priestman Academy and now aspires to go to university!

Parent’s comments 1st March 2017

In the 18 months our daughter has been at Barbara Priestman Academy she has learnt to accept others, recognise her emotions and accept that it is ok to feel those emotions and to understand other people’s feelings. She is now capable of self-regulating, participating within the class setting and tries to be part of the school setting.

We really do appreciate everything you do for our daughter as well as the help and support the Academy gives us as parents.

Thank you.

Parent’s comments 2nd February 2017

This school is amazing! I wish every child who has autism, struggles to go to main stream school, going through stress and anxiety every single day could go to a school like Barbara Priestman Academy.

I can’t praise Barbara Priestman Academy enough. The fact that my child now goes to school without a fight is a huge relief to us. My child has came on so much and we are eternally grateful to all of the staff for their 100% dedication. – Parents of a year 9 student.

Sixth Form Inspection – January 2017

On Wednesday 25th January, we held an inspection of the sixth form with the opportunity to observe lessons and speak to our staff and students. Glen Richardson, Assistant Headteacher said ;
‘To be able to sit and listen to the passion that staff talked with, about what they do and the impact it has on student’s lives and then to see that same passion in lessons which creates an environment that is second to none was fantastic.
The students that talked to Caroline completely backed up what you are trying to achieve with them in all aspects of sixth form life and although we might not always see or hear it from them, they ‘get’ what we are trying to help them achieve both academically and in life skills.
Once again we have been told by a visitor that our students are a great asset to have. I am under no illusions of the role that all staff play across the whole school in equipping them and allowing them to flourish through nurture and opportunities provided to them.
Would our young people be the people they are today without that nurture and opportunity? According to the students I heard from in their meeting with Caroline…  No’

Former Student achieves Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award!

We are so proud of our former student, Alex Clelland, who was presented with his Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award in London recently.
Well Done Alex!

26th September 2016 Duke of Edinburgh visit

On 26th September we were thrilled to host a visit from the Duke of Edinburgh charity. Nicola Merideth, Operations Manager for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award said,

“I would like to thank you on behalf of Mike, Kim, Caroline and myself, for allowing us the privilege to visit your Academy today and to see first hand the truly remarkable work that you all carry out with such passion.

We were greeted with such warmth from you all and it was such a joy to spend time with the students. We loved hearing all about their adventures and seeing the work they do. It looked a lot of fun, but at the same time we appreciate how much effort must go in to ensure your young people get the very best opportunities.

It means so much to us here at the Charity that we can bring some of our special supporters to see Duke of Edinburgh in action. It makes an incredible difference to our relationships and continued support to have these valued opportunities.

Mike and Kim chatted with such emotion and full of admiration of how you deliver the Duke of Edinburgh programmes. I think you may see them again soon!”

We would love for you to share your thoughts with us at barbarapriestman@ascenttrust.org
