Derwent Hill

Students from Years 9, 10 and 12 attended Derwent Hill Outdoor Education Centre from Monday 5th May until Friday 9th May 2014.

During the week the students took part in a wide range of outdoor adventurous activities. These included a walk up Latrigg (379m), a full day canoeing and bushcraft on Derwent Water, high and low ropes course challenges, the “death” swing , a gorge scramble up Honister Ghyll and a sightseeing exploration of Borrowdale and Keswick.

Throughout the participation in all these activities, the students worked on developed a wide range of personal skills. They all faced challenges and overcame their fears. Building self-confidence and self-esteem and learning to manage their emotions was paramount. They showed resilience and tenacity to complete every challenge. They were creative thinkers in the way they enabled others to take a full and active part in all the activities regardless of their ability.

The tutor said “They should all be very proud of their achievements both as individuals and as a group. They have all been amazing”.
